Dear Friends,

Welcome! The 2011-2012 year of the Bedford Women’s Club is shaping up to be another action packed year. Our membership numbers remain strong. Our commitment to the community is steadfast. And, our programs, activities and interest groups are growing. All this is possible as a result of the commitment of the Executive Board, committee chairs and interest group leaders. But of course, each of them would not be successful without the devotion of the many members who gave up lots of summer hours to pull together our programs, fund raisers, and activities we will be enjoying throughout the year.

PROGRAM MEETING - Light Luncheon Served

Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall 11:30 am -- 2:00 pm

PROGRAM SPEAKER: Dr. Meoghan B. Cronin, Ph.D. - “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein”

Dr. Cronin will speak on Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein. First published in 1812, when Mary Shelley was only 21, it is considered one of the world’s most remarkable books. This gothic tale is known for its force of prose and surreal imagery. Dr. Cronin specializes in Romantic and Victorian literature at Saint Anselm College. She came to the college in 1993 with a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware.

Dr. Cronin’s published work focuses on the novels of Thomas Hardy, and has lectured at the Thomas Hardy Society Conference in Dorchester, England. In June 2006, Dr. Cronin received the New Hampshire Excellence Award for postsecondary education.

Dr. Cronin and her husband, Mark Cronin, who is the Assistant Dean of the college, live in Goffstown with their 2 children.

Please note: It is not necessary to have read the book to enjoy Dr. Conin's insights, however if you are interested in reading the book, the Bedford Public Library has several copies available.

“…to laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children…to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” ---Ralph Waldo Emerson
